Another gorgeous and promising wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Caldwell is dense, plush and explosive, with tons of savory character and tannin underpinning the fruit. The 2016 Is going to need time to come together, but it is super-expressive in this tasting. Graphite, grilled herbs, smoke and black olive lead into the explosive finish.
2016 Empreinte Cabernet Sauvignon Caldwell Vineyard
Sourced from John Caldwell’s notable Coombsville vineyard which is composed of pure volcanic rock, the Empreinte Cabernet Sauvignon is a traditional expression of the grape aged in 100% new French oak. Julien has enjoyed working with this vineyard since 2006. Although the soil at Caldwell is the most drastic expression of “poor” soil, this wine exhibits power, balance and elegance.
