The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady is an unusually savory wine from this Yountville site. Grilled herbs, lavender, scorched earth, cedar, red cherry, mint and spice give the 2016 its distinct flavor profile, while beams of tannin shape the feel. Most Sleeping Lady Cabernet lean towards the more sensual side of things, but Empreinte's version is powerful and tannic. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 softens with more time in bottle.

The pristine Sleeping Lady Vineyard sits beautifully manicured beneath the Mayacamas foothills in Yountville. For five generations the fruit from this vineyard was sold to larger wineries, but when the Bettinelli family recently took over the property that changed. Today, Sleeping Lady is one of California’s “grand cru” vineyards and Julien believes it represents the future of Napa Valley.
